Our T1D Wave Story

There’s nothing special about my story. It is one that weaves a thread linking all of us. Mine just began six years ago, when my child was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, and our family’s world changed overnight. We were suddenly navigating an ocean of blood sugar numbers, carb counting and insulin doses- learning to ride the unpredictable waves of highs and lows.

Along the way, I realised how important community is. The reassurance of connecting with others who truly understand, sharing advice, struggles, victories, made a world of difference. It is out of this that T1D Wave Rider was created- a place where parents, siblings, carers and loved ones of those with Type 1 Diabetes can come together, support each other and share experiences.

Beyond emotional support, I wanted to create the practical, day-to-day guidance that I’ve often struggled to find. Managing Type 1 is relentless, and while medical advice is essential, it’s the real-world tips-from handling sleepovers and school trips to managing feelings of isolation with a T1D toddler and healthy snacks for teenagers- that make everyday life easier.

T1D Wave Rider is here to bridge that gap, offering insights, shared experiences and practical advice from people who’ve been there. More than that, it’s a space for motivation and hope. Here, you’ll find stories of those thriving with Type 1- athletes, artists, parents and professionals-who prove that diabetes doesn’t have to ever hold anyone back. Whether you’re new to the diagnosis or years into it, this community is here to uplift, encourage and remind you that while the waves may be unpredictable- we can ride them together.
